What Is Scoliosis Physiotherapy?

Scoliosis is a three-dimensional change in spinal alignment that most often develops in adolescence, but may also persist or emerge in adulthood. Our physiotherapy service provides detailed assessment, education, and Physiotherapy Scoliosis-Specific Exercises (PSSE) to support posture, function, and confidence.

We use the Rigo Concept approach, a pattern-informed method grounded in international research, to deliver individualised, meaningful care for people living with scoliosis.

Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist for scoliosis?

    Answer:
No referral is needed. You can book directly with our physiotherapy team. If imaging or specialist input is required, we’ll help guide you through the process and liaise with your GP or orthopaedic specialist as needed.

    Answer:
No. While adolescents are a key focus due to growth-related progression risks, adults with scoliosis can also benefit from tailored exercise programs that support posture, strength, and function.

    Answer:
Every case is different. Exercise aims to improve control, posture, and functional movement. In adolescents, it may help reduce curve progression risk. For adults, it can improve comfort, movement, and long-term management.

    Answer:
That’s absolutely fine. We work collaboratively with your orthotist or specialist to ensure your exercises support — not interfere with — any bracing or other treatment. You can continue PSSE alongside specialist care.

Yes — if you have extras cover for physiotherapy, both assessment and treatment sessions may be eligible for rebates. We recommend checking your specific policy with your health fund.

    Answer:
This depends on your goals, age, and condition. Some clients complete 4–6 sessions to learn a program for home or gym. Others choose longer-term support during bracing, sport seasons, or growth phases. Your physiotherapist will help map out the best plan for you.
