A structured, practical day covering the full breadth of cervical and thoracic articular examination and treatment, guided by experienced APA Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists.
Articular anatomy of the cervical and thoracic spine — joints, ligaments, movement planes, and clinical relevance for manual assessment.
Structuring your examination: red flags, screening, segmental hypomobility vs hypermobility, and forming a working diagnosis.
Hands-on passive intervertebral motion testing, palpation of articular structures, and PPIVMs for the C/T spine.
Graded mobilisation techniques for articular impairments: Maitland grades, positioning, and progression decision-making.
Safe screening for manipulation, HVLAT techniques for thoracic spine, indications and contraindications.
Participant-led case discussion, supervised practice, and building a systematic clinical workflow for spinal caseloads.
Dan and Anthony bring years of specialist MSK clinical experience to a hands-on teaching format — with a high tutor-to-participant ratio to ensure meaningful skill development on the day.
Daniel is a Physica Director and APA Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with 20 years of clniical experience. Having previously presented on the Australian Physiotherapy Association's Spinal courses for a decade, he is now a presenter at La Trobe University on the undergraduate, graduate-entry Masters and post-graduate Master of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy programs. Daniel is also a clinical placement supervisor for the Master of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy programs.
Anthony is an APA Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with nearly 20 years of clinical experience. He has lectured both domestically and internationally and tutored on postgraduate physiotherapy courses. He has a special interest in cervical and thoracic spine, cervicogenic headache and Post Concussion Management. Anthony is a leading voice in spinal manual therapy at Physica.
