Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is a water based, patient specific exercise program designed by your physiotherapist to assist you in your rehabilitation. Each person is individually assessed and managed. A program will be designed specifically for your needs and the exercises can then be continued independently in the future.

Our classes use a variety of buoyancy devices such as floats and paddles in the warmth of the hydrotherapy pool. The effects of buoyancy and the resistance of the water are the mediums that make hydrotherapy effective. The body can progress through suitable exercises that it cannot on land – eliminating gravity has its benefits with reducing pain and loading on the body. The reduced weight bearing means that we can place people into the water very early after surgery, thus avoiding the effects of muscle de-conditioning.

We can also utilise the resistance and buoyancy with speed and floats to train the fittest of athletes.  Consequently, we are able to cater for every need and ability.

Benefits

Hydrotherapy is beneficial for:

  • Back pain
    • Acute (pain management including early mobilisation in a pain free environment)
    • Chronic (excellent for abdominal stabilisation and regaining flexibility)
  • Shoulder rehabilitation
  • Knee rehabilitation
  • Foot and ankle rehabilitation
  • General fitness and conditioning
  • Painful Arthritic conditions
  • Balance disorder training
